I never used to have this issue, so obviously I've hosed something along the way: For some reason when I use 'mail users' in my 1.3.9sr4 installation, I end up sending double emails to everyone!

I currently have $_CONF['have_pear'] = false; in config.php, I also have $_CONF['mail_settings'] = array ('backend' => 'mail'. The server is linux with PHP 4.3.11, it does have pear configured although I obviously am not using it (yet?).

Where should I start looking to track this down? Which files are involved in sending mail, perhaps I modified one and forgot? Can anyone offer some helpful troubleshooting tips?

This is most likely something that happens outside of Geeklog. Compare the headers of such a duplicate email and see if that gives you any hints ...

I emailed the User Admin group and received two emails (both for the Admin user). There are two members of this group, my user account and the Admin account. I looked carefully at the headers of two duplicates I just recieved and the only difference between them is the id (one is id 1E6vW9-0005g1-Fz and the other is id 1E6vW9-0005g3-Hx). I am assuming since I sent the email, my user account doesn't get a copy? When I send through the mailer utility, it lists which emails are successes and failures. All email using this utility is duplicated and it appears as a duplicate in the success list. Non-geeklog email sent through my domain is not duplicated. It didn't used to happen, so I must have changed something?

Okay, if the addresses are listed twice on the success page, then it is something that happens in Geeklog. But it's really odd ...

Can you check your database to make sure you don't have duplicate user entries for some reason?

Btw, your own address is not filtered out - it just sends an email to every user in the group you select.

The gl_users table just has one entry per user. When logged in under my normal account (which has root priv), I do not receive a copy of any email sent to a group - however I do get two copies of the Admin account's email Sad My users have been reporting this duplicate email for a month or so, and although I noticed it too, I didn't have time to investigate till this weekend. I can't remember now if it coincided with a rebuild of the server in which they shut off register_globals (and I had to put in a work-around), or if it happened when I upgraded to sr4. It's almost time to blow it all away and upgrade to 11 anyway - but no time for that yet.

Can you think of any tests I can do to trace it down? ie: changing a line of code here or there to debug what's happening?

UPDATE: I've checked lib-custom.php and 'custom_email' is still commented out, so that's not it.
