gl-default blocks

Just Curious

Anonymous
I wish to make more topic-blocks on my blog, but I only have the choice of normal, PHP and site blocks.

The point is to make 2-3 gl-default blocks for different topics so people can post to them, and not have to put the links on html.

How is this done?

I fail to see why these blocks would have to be "default" blocks. Just write the PHP function (which you would need anyway) for them and make them PHP blocks ...

I don't know PHP. I there any difference between a default block and a PHP Block.. I see that with Default block you can submit stories and that it is set for all topic selection. Is this the case with PHP.

Anyway, "default blocks" are pretty much only Geeklog's built-in blocks. PHP blocks can be assigned to a topic and other than that, what they can do only depends on the PHP function you write for them.

Also see What are the different block types for?

Thanks,

What happened is I used the Topic Block and I created A lot of categories like sports, sports-hockey, sports-hockey-bostonbruins. I only want the main Sports to show up on the side bar. I don't want the subcategories to show up on the homepage sidebar. Maybe on the sports page side bar only or maybe not. I do want the subcategories to still be available for static pages to choose under topics. I was thinking if you could create a Sports Default the subcategoires will be selectable in the topics scroll down for static pages then not enable it but use it for topics. I know you can't have default pages for seperate pages from what I read. It is either all, homepage &... I'm a newbie and I'm sure this is not the best way to do this. I don't know any PHP-but I imagine I will have to create topics and link to achieve this. But it was the first thing I cam up against and asked myself if I could create a default page. I'm just learning and it is all new. I tyring to change themes.
