Ok, i've recently seen a very succesful geeklog site http://www.halomods.com and realised geeklog was free, i'm very much a newb to all this but how would i go about making a geeklog site, what FREE hosting could i use and can anyone lead me to more help, tutorials...anything.

Well, try the installation instructions. There are also Alternative installation instructions if you have problem with them.

A word of warning about "free" hosts: Many of those impose a lot of restrictions these days that may make certain features unusable or even prevent you from installing Geeklog altogether. Proper web hosting isn't that expensive any more ...
