Bizarre problems

stderr

Anonymous
The problem appears to be in lib-database.php line 117.
We place exit signals above and below this line, and they worked above, but not below.

None of the PHP pages load at all, it just stopped working today, I haven't edited any of the files recently either.

// When setting up Geeklog for the first time, you need to make sure the
// settings in the following 3 sections are correct:
// (1) Database Settings
// (2) Paths
// (3) Site Settings
// You can adjust the other settings once your site is up and running.

// +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
// | (1) Database Settings |
// +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+

$_DB_host = 'localhost'; // host name or IP address of your DB server
$_DB_name = '******'; // name of your database,
// must exist before running the installer!
$_DB_user = '*****'; // MySQL user name
$_DB_pass = '*******'; // MySQL password

// The table prefix is prepended to each table used by Geeklog to avoid name
// collisions with other tables that may already exist in your database.
$_DB_table_prefix = 'gl_'; // e.g. 'gl_'

// +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
// | (2) Paths |
// +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+

// Note for Windows users: It's safe to use the forward slash '/' instead of
// the backslash '' in paths. Make sure each path starts with a drive letter!

// This should point to the directory where your config.php file resides.
$_CONF['path'] = '/home/linuxin/public_html/stderr/'; // should end in a slash

// You only need to change this if you moved or renamed the public_html
// directory. In that case, you should specify the complete path to the
// directory (i.e. without the $_CONF['path']) like this:
// $_CONF['path_html'] = '/path/to/your/public_html/';
$_CONF['path_html'] = $_CONF['path'] . '';

// +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
// | (3) Site Settings |
// +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+

// Make sure this is the correct URL to your site, i.e. to where Geeklog's
// index.php file resides (no trailing slash).
$_CONF['site_url'] = 'http://stderr.linuxinit.net';

// Some hosting services have a preconfigured admin directory. In that case,
// you need to rename Geeklog's admin directory to something like "myadmin"
// and change the following URL as well. Leave as is until you experience any
// problems accessing Geeklog's admin menu.
$_CONF['site_admin_url'] = $_CONF['site_url'] . '/admin';

$_CONF['site_slogan'] = 'Without errors, we'd all be bored.';

Hi...

I'm the guy that host's stderr...

What I did was, started at the top of the index.php file, and started moving exit("#"); down through the file to find where the script was failing. I increased the number each time to make sure that I wasn't just getting the cache...

I made my way through a few files and followed the includes until I got to /system/lib-database.php.

That's a huge file... So I put an exit at the top, worked... bottom... didn't work... middle... didn't work... so I move up one function each time until It worked. Then I moved it back down line by line (skipping comments of course) to find which one was causing the script to fail.

This is the line that causes the script to fault (line 117 of /system/lib-database.php):
Text Formatted Code
$_DB = new database($_DB_host,$_DB_name,$_DB_user,$_DB_pass,'COM_errorLog');

I would consider myself pretty knowledgable when it comes to PHP. I don't have the time right now to devote to debugging the rest of his files. So I asked him to post here hoping that one of you 'kind' people would be able to help him. ;-)

The url of his site is:
http://stderr.linuxinit.net

The page appears to either redirec to about:blank, or nothing. If you load a page, then load his, the page you loaded before remains...

Thanks in advance,
Gordon Lowrey / linuxinit

Have I missed something or has neither of you stated what the actual problem is?

bye, Dirk

I don't get it...seems to be loading fine for me. No errors that I could see. I however did not create an account and login. Was the database not created in MySQL when you got this error? The install script sets up the tables, not the database name. That has to be done prior to running the install.php.

$_DB_host = 'localhost'; // host name or IP address of your DB server
$_DB_name = '******'; // name of your database,

/// must exist before running the installer! ----Database name in MySQL

$_DB_user = '*****'; // MySQL user name
$_DB_pass = '*******'; // MySQL password

@ironmax:
It's been insatalled for a week or two... ;-)

Anyways... This is bizzare indeed. It seems to be working now. Not sure what the deal was... None of the Geeklog PHP files would load. I thought some included file was prematurely exiting or something. Whatever the problem was, it seems to be fine now. He claims not to have edited any files or anything when it screwed up. Whatever... It's fine now. Thanks...
