I would like to remove the menu items from the top of the page
and have them displayed in a left block.
I have found the info for adding plug=in menu items in this fashion but
have been unable to figure out how to get the standard menu items into a left block.
can someone point me to a tutorial that covers this?
and have them displayed in a left block.

you could always just hard code them into a normal block--it's not like they're all that dynamic.

...or you could modify COM_renderMenu() from lib-common.php and put it into a php block.
