Images Not showing, Site URL Correct

Greets,
Getting image place holders for all "gifs" on the site.
SiteURL is correct and the default theme is showing up correctly, but getting place holders.
Surfing to the URL shown in the properties of the .gif yeilds the correct .gif.
If the URL is correct in the default image box, why would it not show up in IE?

Sorry, just realized I had left that out.

Dedicated server install. Non-public stuff is down low (/usr/home/xxx/geeklog), public stuff is like (/usr/www/users/xxx/domain)
Original Install had eveything up in the public_html area of the server, was version 1.3.7 and had the same problem, so I wiped it all, then upgraded and split the install.
Permissions had to be set to 777 to work correctly.

DOH,
There was an .htaccess rewrite rule to stop .gifs from being served to other webservers.
I added the domain name to the rule and VIOLIA!!!
Any admin feel free to delete this thread (and maybe add a note about checking for .htaccess rules in your FAQ about this subject)

YES! Thanks for NOT deleting this post---I struggled and struggled trying to get my images to load, going over the config file and everything I could think of.
I agree that this oversight with .htaccess rewrite rule should be in the FAQ, which was the first place I looked for the solution.
Thanks!

I'm having this same problem, only I'm alot more computer illiterate than you two. Can anyone tell me what I need to modify in order to make this work? I tried modifying the .htaccess in my webservers root directory with no success. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Dee.
