You and I know that your statement is correct ....
It has the SAME meaning in Spanish, too.
However,
NOt everyone who will see my website -- or the general public for sure -- are into proper grammatical usage of common native words, rather prefer to use slangs.
I have heard and read MANY times the word CONTRIBUTION used to signify monetary donation -- thus causing the general public to relate this word with "donations" ...
Anyway.... in Customer Service, it is best to make sure that ANY word used is unmistakenly understood by the GENER PUBLIC, and as such, it is best to use words that they use in everyday conversation.
When you say someone is COOL -- you are not refering to his body temperature, but to him being socially adept and in a relax state. So in such a case I want my website to say COOL rather than SOCIABLE.
Again, you are right -- and I appreciate your time in clarifying this to me -- but in eCommerce it is best to be understood by the general public, most of whom have never cracked a dictionary.
Onward....

Contribute is for adding an article (I mean submitting it),I speak spanish and even in spanish the word we use for $$$: donate/donation.
When you need to request donations you have to explain briefly why,ex: "Geeklog is a free project that needs your support,please...."

I use "Get Published" as I too feel contribute is easily confused with the request for a donation.
And Jesus is just another name ...

As to the question. I thought exactly the same. I changed it to "Author a Story" for I thought "Contribute" to be imprecise with double if not more meanings.

And, actually, after you click the "contribute" link the page says "Submit a Story" so, I think something describing what you can do with a story would be more correct. Just my opinion. YMMV. William
