Common Error so Before Installing

working
I have been encountering what appears to be a common error installing Geeklog 1.3.11sr2 on a CGI server running Linux. I know I am entering in the wrong path in the $_CONF['path']

Before I install, how easy it to change the "look and feel" of geeklog so that the transition between my existing site and geeklog is seamless. (the latin embassy.com). My site uses CSS.

I want to use the blog primarily however want to eventually create a dynamic paid membership site. I currently use constant contact to manage my email list.

I eventually will have two contact lists
1. non-paying email list subscribers that simply are informed of on/offline events
2. paying email list members that will have access to benefits on/off line.

Is Geeklog a good tool to start off given my plans?

BTW Geeklog will be initially used to post blogs, promote interactivity via forums, create a calendar of events and develop an online community.

Then I plan to syndicate the Blogs via RSS feeds.

thanks

Head over to the freshly updated demo site to get an impression. It also has quite a few themes there which should give you an idea how easy it is to modify the looks of Geeklog.

I know I am entering in the wrong path in the $_CONF['path']

What is the proper syntax for the path. I have tried various statements and followed the install instruction but I am unable get to step two of the install.

I currently have the following statements

$_CONF['path'] = '/[mysite].com/Blog/'; // should end in a slash

$_CONF['path_html'] ='/[mywebsite].com/Blog/public_html/';

What should they be?

Also Path to Geeklog's config.php: defaults to

/home/content/L/a/t/LatinEmbassy/html/Blog

Is this correct?

The actual path is root/Blog/config.php

root is where my index.html file is located. It is also where I have ftp access to.

The actual path (meaning the path on the webserver's file system, not the part of your site's URL after the domain name) is probably what Geeklog suggested there in the install script. So try that ...

OK, that makes sense.

Now where do I find this information? I am using a Godaddy based shared solution and only have access to that directory via FTP.

You already have that information - you quoted it above. That is the real full path to the directory you see when you connect via ftp.

So just use the long path that the install script suggested in your config.php, too.

Thank you, I was able to complete the install. Now I am working on changing the Theme.

It seems like there are many files to change starting with the following :

header.thtml
footer.thtml
blockheader.thtml
blockfooter.thtml
storybody.thtml
storybodytext.thtml
featuredstorybody.thtml
featuredstorybodytext.thtml
archivestorybody.thtml
archivestorybodytext.thtml
style.css

I wish there was an easy way, but I will get to work.
