I am too close to the trees to see the forest. I have tried a number of choices. I tried last summer to get this to work. Gave up. This seems to be a big problem on you application to be straight forward install.pl ... once I understand the problem will provide one that works for this configuration. Beta has access to the db and install is simply aborted due to a base dir error. IS this an install problem. Do I need to clear MySQL db ?

I tried to preserve the hierarchy of the file structure found in the tar. the non public files are found in path "/home/httpd/vhosts/pawpatrol.net/" ie "/home/httpd/vhosts/pawpatrol.net/system"

This pretty much says it all: Your server setup does not allow access to files in /home/httpd/vhosts/pawpatrol.net/ but only in /home/httpd/vhosts/pawpatrol.net/httpdocs.

If you can, change the server setup (i.e. PHP's open_basedir restrictions) accordingly. Otherwise, put the files somewhere else (for hints, see Installing Geeklog entirely within the web root).

This works for Fedora with Plesk 7.5

create vhost.conf with vi or other text editor


#php_admin_value open_basedir "/home/httpd/vhosts/yoursite.net/httpdocs:/tmp:/."
#php_admin_value open_basedir none


save to path /home/httpd/vhosts/yoursite.net/conf/

then with ssh
su - // enter root superuser

[root]# locate websrvmng
/usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/websrvmng
[root]# /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/websrvmng -v -a

this solved the basedir() problem

I also had to enter plesk and admin clear the db back to virgin file structure "no tables or content"

this problem remained

I really would like to see this work without a lot of problems I believe I can document this and post online for you to review and copy if you want to use it elsewhere ... I hate to leave long queries in forums

there are other ways to bypass the basedir problem without leaving your provider provided that you are a dedicated server or have their cooperation. Many just have no clues as I found myself this past few months ... how to live with Plesk and not suffer its limitations

I received the help I needed to solve the problem of installing Geeklog and documented it as well. The fact is clear the very difficulty of installing is a plus as the reason is security from hacks like bella characters. Our new servers are online and getting reestablished. I will be using Geeklog for a number of reasons where Nuke will not work. I can not tell you how to run your site. But I am disappointed this got past your eyes.

Their attacks need to be exposed as what they are attackers for hire that are tied to the predators we fight. There is no money in what we do. None of us get paided and all of you know how hard the work is to get a simple site working and available to millions of page presentations.

Their constant attacks has been saddening but we will not give into to such terrorism. This is cyber stalking that all sites should stand together to stop just like spammers they are theives. I do not hide my name nor do I use aliases. This hate group is all about secrecacy and attack and flea. They exploit your sites success with the search engines and word of mouth to fight us. Even to encourage you and other not to help us.

Fortunately they are not effective and responsible folks do check it out.

You plagiarize the Internet at every turn and do not give credit to the true author. You were called to the carpet on this by Child Seek Network (here) after they discovered you had plagiarized their website. After that, you registered "childseeknetwork.info" to slander that organization...just like you registered "voiceforthechildren.info" to slander the true organization.
You have a police officer in your hometown who has a sister missing (here)...yet you've never helped them. Your reason? You yourself stated...they never gave you any money!
You created a false email address that was "similar" to the true email address for Voice for the Children, Inc. (here)...and used their logo...in order to receive donations meant for them via PayPal.
You have registered NUMEROUS domains that sound like legitimate organizations for the direct purpose of both slander as well as for traffic to your shabby site(s) in order to beg for money!
Google News even removed you because of your actions. Of course, it didn't help when you reported that 9 year old Dylan Groene was found alive and was to be "reunited with his sister", when in fact, he had been murdered!!
