Seeking GL guru's with strong mysql skills

Has anyone taken the news and links from a php-nuke site/db and imported into GL 1.4rc1? I would be willing to pay for this service if someone has done it before, or knows it can be done resonably quickly and easily.

I'm no guru but I've done enough projects with this very dilemma. I'm also up to my eyeballs in projects so I can't take on anymore but if I were to take on your project these would be my first thoughts...

I've only done a basic install of PHP-Nuke when I was testing and comparing it to Geeklog a few years back so my details may be fuzzy. Either way your project may be relatively simple or quite a nightmare depending on what you have to transfer.

Stories are going to be your largest concern. PHP-Nuke has a different database structure. For instance, you can create a poll within a PHP-Nuke story. That would be two separate things in GL. If you have no polls or you don't want to transfer them over then no big deal, but I would imagine that many little issues just like that will pop up during the planning phase of the transfer. Another for instance is that a PHP-Nuke story is categorized/linked to both a topic and a category. Geeklog only uses topics so you may have to get creative as to how you re-categorize your stories.

Then if you have, and want to transfer over all of the, comments associated with your stories and links then yikes! It could likely be done but at a heavy cost in time, patience and sanity.

You may want to consider posting how many stories and links you have to transfer. Also any details (like things discussed above) you can provide would certainly help a would be volunteer determine if he/she is up to the task.

My last comment is that if you do have a large amount of stories and links to transfer then be patient because it will take time to get it right.

Good luck and I hope this helps you think through your project a bit more,
Randy

Hey thanks for the reply. No polls in the stories and there are around 2500 articles and around 550 links. I knew I would need to deal with the topics and such, and although I could do this myself, I am really swamped with time right now and would simply send anyone a cheque for their time to do this for me...provided I get an estimate first.
