My friend uses Geeklog for student alumni sites.
She sometimes add hundreds of users and sent them mail news using user groups.
It is so convenient that we get mail news server and community site at the same time.

But there is one problem.
(I think) from 1.4.0, when added new user, the default mode is 'awaiting activation'. She can not send mails news to those users.
We have two options to improve the situation.
1) change policy to send mails to 'awaiting activation' users.
2) add an option to set the default mode for registering new user.
Choose from 'awaiting activation' and 'active'

Also, it is very helpfull that we can select a default groups in batch add modes.

Well, we might be able to send a patch for those features.
