Make sure the error.log file is writable (as explained in the installation instructions). Then try again and quote the SQL error message it logged there ...

Hmm, that's a bit of an odd error. Not quite sure what causes it.

Try deleting your cookies, especially the "geeklog" cookie.

I am encountering a similar problem upgrading to 1.4.0sr1 from 1.3.11sr1.

when I chmod 777 the log files I see the SQL error message:

Tue Feb 28 20:17:49 2006 - 1054: Unknown column 'header_tid' in 'where clause'. SQL in question: SELECT format, filename, title FROM gl_syndication WHERE (header_tid = 'all')

I've deleted cookies in both IE and Firefox and still get the SQL error. Have fallen back to the 1.3.11 for now.

Any ideas?

Oh, geez, never mind, rtfm.

I see you need to go to 1.3.11sr3 first then to 1.4 . . . I'll give that a try.

Actually, you don't. You can jump from any 1.3.11 version right to 1.4.0sr1. Just make sure you really update all the files.

I'm getting a similar error when I try to post a comment on my board:

"An SQL error has occurred. Please see error.log for details."

I've have looked all over my error log, I've search the boards for it's location, and tried searching the documentation. It's probably a really newb question, I'm feeling like I really qualify as such. Doh! - that was a mistake

I do appreciate any help, or maybe I'm searching for the wrong thing, a point in the right direction would make my day! Big Celebration

Re: where the logs are--Look in the /gl/logs/ directory (where /gl/ is wherever you installed Geeklog to.

For me, it was missing the teensy little step of upgrading the SQL database.

I'll go off now and whimper silently to myself in the corner over there. Embarassed

Thank you! Wow, if it had been a snake it would have bitten me!

Now I just have to figure out what it means...

Wed 01 Mar 2006 14:35:57 MST - 1044: Access denied for user: 'deirdrexxxx@%' to database 'deirdrexxxx'. SQL in question: LOCK TABLES gl_comments WRITE

I'm guessing it has something to do with the permissions, I will go investigate!

Banging your head

I tried to follow the directions from that link, but I can't get access to Lock the tables (yes, I'm thinking about a different hoster now)

When I tried this alternative:

2. Remove all the "LOCK TABLE" "UNLOCK TABLE" SQL calls from comment.php. This should be okay if you have a low traffice site, but opens up the possiblity of corruption if two or more users try to save or delete comments at the same time.

I couldn't find any SQL calls in my comment.php file. Could it possibly be in a different file? I have the latest version of Geeklog installed.

Thank you very much for your help!

The LOCK/UNLOCK statements are in system/lib-comment.php now. I've just updated the FAQ - sorry about that.
