I've recently installed a new installation of GL 1.4.0sr1. I've got it and gallery2 running, including the GL_Gallery2 plugin, but I can't seem to get the other plugins I've tired working.

I had this same issue with both filemgmt 1.3 and menu 1.61.

When I try to install the plugin from admin/plugins/*/install.php, it just keeps reloading the page agian with no error message. Both geeklog's error.log and apache's error.log contain no messages from it.

I've checked the directories, and they were all chown'd and chmod'd (775), plus I've created the other directories for filemgmt_data.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Or am I missing an incompatibility with these modules and GL 1.4?

register_globals = on is still required by some plugins.

I tried that, at least with filemgmt, and it displayed a white screen (like it had failed halfway through). The error logs didn't report any error, but did say it had added the security groups.
