a couple questions

I have geeklog installed and have the forum and media gallery plugins installed and everything is working pretty good. This is just a family site so the only users are our friends and family but some of the family members can't remember their passwords but there is nothing for them to click on to either retrieve their password or to reset their password. Is there a setting for this that needs to be set in the config file? I am using version 1.3.11sr4. Also, since everything is login required...if you click on the "Login" link in any of the plugins or submissions you get the following error: Speed Limit
You have exceeded the number of allowed login attempts. Please try again later.
Any ideas for this happening?
And finally one more question: Our server allows the installation Geeklog through fantastico and they just released the newest version (1.4.0sr1) if I upgrade will the plugins and everything remain in contact or will there need to be alot of manual resets of some or all of the plugins and settings?
thanks for the help

Concerning log-in you may have a look at the config.php and read the documentation: http://www.geeklog.net/docs/Udgrading usually requires also copying over the plugins again but you don`t need to install then again as they are in the database already IF you can use the same database. I don`t know what fantastico does with the old one (delete it or save it???).

There is a "forgot password" function, but in 1.3.11 the link only shows up when you actually mistype your login credentials. In 1.4.0, as you can see on this site, it's right there in the login box. Going to www.example.com/users.php will give you the link. You could put it in a block somewhere on your site.

Hmm, this shouldn't happen just from clicking on such a link. Does it actually not let you log in then or is it maybe only displaying the wrong message?

I'm not familiar with Fantastico, but from what I heard it doesn't offer an automated update, so you'd have to follow our manual upgrade instructions.
bye, Dirk

When you click on the link...that message is what you get. You can't log in it doesn't even give you a login box. I'll probably just attempt an upgrade. I just didn't want to disturb the site since they are using it quite a bit and if I screw something up...well you know how family are ...

Well, you should upgrade manually to Geeklog 1.3.11sr5 which is easy to do. I think for a family site you don`t really need to go to 1.4.0. which is much more difficult to do.
I can only say again: Have a look at config.php and the expalantion http://www.geeklog.net/docs/config.html
Look at $_CONF['login_attempts'] $_CONF['login_speedlimit']
