I've got two sites one is 1.4.0sr1 and another is 0sr2 both have the same problem with Read More being inserted when there is nothing to read.
I've read earlier posts concerning a hack for the lib-story.php and tried it to no avail.
Is anyone else having this problem?

Yeah. I think it is the result of a small problem with the wysiwyg editor. I think if you click the "Source" button on the second editor window, and then backspace over any space you find there, then save the story, it should go away.

There doesn't seem to be any spaces but I tried what you recommended with no change.
