no page displays for success.php

I've been reading through the installation section and I see a lot of people come across a page not found error when it arrives to success.php. I originally received that error and found the problem in my path.
Now when I try to go to my site (or to success.php), I don't get any error messages, I don't get anything at all. It shows at the bottom of the browser that the page is done loading, but the screen is blank. I've checked to make sure mysql is running on the system, but can't figure out what's happening. Any help would be appreciated. Unfortunately, I don't have any PHP experience, but the documentation included was plenty helpful.

In thinking back, I went and viewed source for success.php in the browser and get this:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<HTML><HEAD>
<META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=utf-8"></HEAD>
<BODY></BODY></HTML>
So it looks to me like the information isn't being passed along to fill the page. Unfortunately, I have no idea where to look from here.

Thank you, Dirk! Once that was done it gave me a proper error message and I was able to resolve that. Much appreciated!
