Turning off top navigation bar

Hello,

Is there a way to turn off the top navigation bar or move it so it is a column on the left or right?

You can simply remove it from the header.thtml template file of your theme (see How do I change the menu? for details). Moving it to the left or right side will only work when you hard-code the links there, though.
