Can't login into GL 1.4 with PHP 5.1.2

I can't login into GL 1.4 with PHP 5.1.2. Yes, I've read the faq. I see the post command for users.php. Cookies get set according to the browser, but the $COOKIES var does not have them. Its like it skips execution of users.php and goes straight to index.php.

I don't know what happened but it fixed itself for now.
