Hi guys,
I'm using Geeklog since 2003, and I created my best internet sites with this fantastic cms (my bigger and most important site: http://www.md80.it , about 3.000.000 contact/years).
Now, I think Geeklog is the best cms I ever tried, and I will continue to use it. It's perfect, I have a perfect knowledge of it, I know config.php and I can do some little hack to have the best results.
The ONLY point is the THEMES.
Geeklog community in the world had developed some great themes, but some of them are too "old" (old style), and other aren't upgraded for 1.4.0 with wywiwyg editor.
The best theme's developer, wOOge (Axonz.com) has stopped to create new themes, so the situation is not good.
All other cms (like Mambo, Wordpress...) have a fantastic selection of themes, very modern, very "simple", very "think different", very cool.
WHY no one is developing new themes for Geeklog? Why no one focalize his attention to this point?
Geeklog could be more attractive, for new users, if they can see a good layout, not only professional and some others old themes.
What's the problem? Are the creation of themes so difficult?
Unfortunatly I'm not able to develope themes, I can only do a little modification to the old ones.
Tell me what do you think about!

If you use the Professional theme that comes with the latest GL as the base, you can in fact resurect all other thems but just tranfering the other themes styles and layout into the Professional them. All you have to change is a few files in the root directory of the them to make a big difference.
There are also about 70 themes updated for 1.4 at:

Sam, THAT is the point: for years, years and years we talk about old themes. We can convert, upgrade, convert and upgrade, upgrade and convert to make them compatible with newer version of Geeklog.
No one tho talk about NEW themes...
And the question is "why"...
We can't continue for the next 10 years with the same 20 themes...
Mambo, Wordpress, Drupal are WORST than Geeklog, but they have impressive themes...

I agree for 100% with you, Kreative, the current themes are not exactly stunning, and that's an understatement. wOOge/Axonz was indeed doing a great job (thnx wOOge), but has stopped developing new themes, and we shouldn't depend on only one person of course.
Perhaps we make a bigger step than just a nice new theme, we should develop this a theme in several coloursets and in several variations, so:
one theme, with:
- choise of 2 and 3 columns
- 2 or 3 different kind of headers and footers
- 2 or 3 different kind of block templates and story templates
- all colours and should be put in the CSS
- 5 or 6 different stylesheets with different coulours and/or fonts
- 2 or 3 iconsets and/or sets with BG images
- not so many tables, and not looking like all regular portal layouts......
This way many people will very happy with their 'own' Geeklog theme...
I will be quite happy to add my 2 cents to help developing something like that.
Dutch Geeklog sites about camping/hiking:
www.kampeerzaken.nl | www.campersite.nl | www.caravans.nl | www.caravans.net

Beewee, you wrote exactly what I mean.
Just an example:
http://www.onemorething.it/
- Simple theme
- Nice fonts
- Elegant and modern (but I would prefer different colors)
- Just add a right column and we have a very nice theme!
Is so difficult to develope a theme like this? I'm not able, but I think CSS style are the most important thing, and the fonts are important too. I think we need simple theme (also the basic Wordpress theme, based on "Rubik" theme is very nice), no more.
So, is there a graphic designer who wants to try? I think Geeklog could be much much much more impressive with simple-nice-elegants themes... People, just look for all other wordpress themes and you'll understand what I mean.

No, a theme like that is quite easy. But you name a very simple theme here, I think most people like something more attractive
