Ok here is the problem. I run an events website and currently i use the default geeklog calendar for the events... which is fine. The only thing i hate about it is how the events show up on the main page in list form. I would rather have a small calendar like the one that the plugin MyCal provides. So you would say, "well then just use MyCal instead". Well i would, but the way the plugin works kinda sucks. I dont want to have the calendar produce anything but events, and mycal just uses a search string to bring up anyting posted on the day you click. Idealy i would like to have a mini calendar connected to the geeklog calendar that would only have a link in days where there was a posted event. So the question is would i be better off trying to modify the geeklog calendar or the mycal plugin? Has anyone done something similar?

no because Mycal IS the Site Calendar Block. Download it and you see what I mean.

Matt Palermo over at Sweetphp.com makes a great calendar called TotalCalendar which I helped him do a Geeklog integration with.
Check out my demo here.
It includes rss for a block type list or subscriptions via Mozilla calendar, sunbird, or ical, and I've made a minical block also if you are interested.
Matt is about to release v2.4 which will includes full support for geeklog(although I think he added it to the current v2.3)
Hope this helps

Yeah that is the general idea of what i need, but im not sure i want to pay $35 for it and then not have it work right with my layout or geeklog installation. I checked out your demo and it is nice, but i didnt see a mini cal anywhere, except the previous and next month calendars if that is what you are talking about. I see that you HAVE fully integrated it on your site, but I would still have to script a mini cal to put in a block for the front page. Also i checked out that Jinzora thing you have pretty cool, would there be a way to do the same thing but for mp3's that were on your server?

I already have that. I'm on a windows server, and for some unknown reason I get a cannot redeclare class pear error intermittently, so I disabled it. This is not an issue on linux though. I submitted the code to Matt for inclusion in v.2.4
As for the $35, I think it is worth it to support small developers. Look to Blaine's premium plugins for example. All worth the money.
My favorite feature is the subscription feature. If I update my calendar, my friends all get updated too. Sounds perfect for your events site.

That is how it works
