cPanel upgrade

How do you get the geeklog version upgraded on cpanel. My current hosted account offers geeklog v1.3.11sr1 with no upgrades available. Before I start getting deep into a database driven site, I would first like to be working with a more current version rather than suffer database back ups and such later on.
