Subdomains without a complete install

I don't know if this is possible or not but what I have is a domain with many many sub domains. Does anyone have and idea or a suggestion on how to handle the subs without having to do an install for each.
My subs are
something.mydomain.com
And if there is a way, is there a way to allow the subs to have a different theme than the main?
