I'm currently trying to get another site running with geeklog, but it requires something alittle different than i have running on my current site. Basically its to do with the user sign up and user options, when I user signs up, I need them to go direct to the preferences page, which will have for example, a list of sections, or interests that are tick boxes, which they can select to show what they are interested in, which can be used by the admin to put users into groups and sending out emails.
For example
Music
(*) Rock
(o) Pop
Food
(o) pizza
(*) chips
So user Emma would have
Emma
Music: Rock
Food: Chips
in her profile, and an admin could send out emails relating to rock, or chips.
etc
I was wondering if anyone had done anything like this before? or could offer any advice on this tricky idea looking at the custom membership sign up, looks like the options should be possible to add, but I'm not sure on the using this to seperate members so an admin can email them depending on there selections.

If you want to do it right when the user registers with the site, have a look at the custom registration functions in lib-custom.php. And if you want to do it later, there are plugin API functions to extend the user's profile page.
