It easy. One way:
Unzip the archive for the theme on your own computer. I think that particular one (white pointer theme) is named a little bit funny, so rename the top directory to White_Pointer instead of !WHitePointer1.4.0 as is is called now.
Start your FTP program and navigate to the public_html/layout directory.
You will see a subdirectory called Professional.
Move the whole White_Pointer folder to the location public_html/layout on the server so that it sits next to the Professional theme's directory.
That's it.
You may have to update for the plugins, but that's another story.

Just login and go to "preferences" under user functions. You can select theme there.
To set a specific theme as the default, you can edit the config.php. It should be clear which line to change in there.

After much experimentation and tweaking, I found that the only way to make an alternate theme work properly is to copy the entire contents of your chosen theme to the "professional" theme folder. Don't know why it works!?!
This is a sloppy fix and means you can't make theme switching an option so if anyone has a better tactic, I'd appreciate hearing about it

The theme you downloaded wasn't updated for the version of GL that you're running.
in essence you did what Dirk suggested that you do when he pointed you to the "How do I change the default theme" link.
You can still have multiple themes.

So what exactly do you not understand? Some basic HTML knowledge would come in handy, of course. But other than that, it's just a case of making a few simple changes in header.thtml.
bye, Dirk
