Upgraded MySQL, now Cannot connect to DB Server.

I installed MySQL 5.02 and copied my data files over to it.
I created the user accounts as they existed in my old server.
And now all I get is "Cannot connect to DB server" and I cannot figure out why.
I installed an older 4.1 version and still get the same message.
I can log in using mysqlyog using the user and password fine, and see the DBs.
I'm stumped. Anyone have any idea?

Found the problem.
I had to set the MySQL passwords to the OLD_PASSWORD, as the new versions of MySQL have a more secure hashing and don't like old passwords.
I should ahve remembered this as I had to deal with it a month ago.
