Content Syndication not updating

Does anyone know why the content for the RSS Syndication may stop updating? After all this time and a few geeklog updates, I decided to check to see if it was working and to find that it's missing several stories. I also tried to make a Syndication for the forums and it shows up in the plugin, but does not create the tag file in the backend dir. I checked the permissions and they were fine. It had read/write access.
Update...permissions were set, however I forgot to set the modify flag.

Did you or has anyone had this problem and fixed it?
I was poking around my site and noticed that my feeds haven't been updated since 2005!
I have the config.php file set to
The feed file and containing folder are CHMOD 777
I have tried multiple combinations of:
-deleting the feed in the admin panel
-re-adding the feed in the admin panel
-deleting and re-adding the feed file on my server (and, of course, setting it back to 777)
-re-saving a story to get the feed to regenerate
Nothing seems to work.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I figured it out!
The feed filenames had been entered as "backend/index.rss", which looks like it worked until around the 1.4.x release. I removed the "backend/" portion of the filename and the feeds now generate without any problems.
