In the config.php file there is a section for 'autolinks' that provides incorrect information.

The default setting is as follows:


However, this does not actually create autolinks when a URL is entered in a story.

Changing the value from 0 to 1 does allow autolink creation. Not sure if anyone has ever noticed / mentioned this but I thought it was worth pointing out

The idea of that option is that when it's set to 1, all autolinks would show up as you entered them (with the square brackets) instead of being replaced with whatever they where supposed to. As far as I can see, that is working as intended. And since the option is checked in PLG_replaceTags, this would then apply to all autotags automatically, so stories shouldn't behave any different from the rest ...

Perhaps I don't understand something here, it's always possible.

When I read 'autolinks disabled' I presume that means html links will not be automatically generated when you type them in a story. For instance, when the default setting is used and I type a URL in a story it will appear in the story a simple unclickable text. It does not generate a link automatically.

When I change the setting to "1", which then means "autolinks disabled" and I type a URL in a story without adding the HTML code myself, the HTML link is automatically generated.

The language posted above appears to be backwards.

It says "disable autolinks if set to 1". But clearly, it is creating links automatically when set to 1.

"Autolinks" refers to the thingies in square brackets, see About Autolinks And Autotags

Links in text-only posts are automatically converted into clickable links and there's currently no option to switch those off.
