When a user Logs in, nothing appears to happen until you refresh the browser, I suspect this is something server side to do with caching ? although you can see the cache working in other area's its not really a problem but the Login and then having to "Refresh" is confusing is there anyway for Geeklog to tell the server not to used cached content for the login ?

Caching appears to be the problem. Could be on the browser level (I've seen Opera, for example, to cache too much) or something in between (e.g. a proxy).
See if adding a
to your header.thtml makes any difference (it's already there in the Professional theme, btw, but commented out).
