Does anyone have a working version of Journal that works with the latest stable release of geeklog and are they willing to share it ? Cos I can't get it to work & I really want this feature...

I would assume the problem is more with MySQL than with Geeklog. I.e. newer versions of MySQL may be more picky about certain values.
In the admin/install.php, find the line
Text Formatted Code
. "jrn_id mediumint(8) DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL auto_increment,"bye, Dirk

In the admin/install.php, find the line
and try removing the "DEFAULT '0'" bit, since this is what it seems to complain about.
