it says one of the allowed html tags is [image:], in all the html tag lists I've ever used to reference html, that tag wasn't listed. what is the syntax for using that tag?
sorry for the super newb question
(including tags would've been much easier for laymen like me )

it's in the tags listed for creating a new event in the calendar that comes with GL.

so which calendar plugin do you distribute with GL so i can find their help files? the entry for the calendar in the GL documentation doesn't say anything about it.

and there is no calendar plugin listed under plugins in my admin menu. but you can create and view the events listed on the calendar with the Event Manager from the Events link in the admin menu. this would lead me to believe this is part of GL and not a plugin. but I don't know anything about this stuff

Not sure what you're talking about now ...
The calendar is not a plugin yet (only as of Geeklog 1.4.1, currently in beta). What I was trying to say above is that you seem to have installed some other plugin that provides that image tag.
I know MediaGallery does that, for example. Do you have MediaGallery installed? Or some other image gallery?
bye, Dirk

If you do have MediaGallery installed then you can find information on how to use its autotags with Geeklog here:
