add picture

How do I add a picture from my picture folder to a story /text that is is my site?
I browsed the picture, used the command [image1_left] view before saving & the picture was not added.

When adding a picture to a story, you cannot use preview. Save the story as a draft if you have to but while there's a file name in the entry box for a story, preview is buggy.
