For some reason when I go to save a story, the story does not save at all. it won't even preview. can someone guide me on how I can test to see if my story is saving and if it isn't then why not?
p.s. i am the moderator and no submissions from the save show up in the story section.

WOW!!! I actually found the answer myself in the FAQ. This is what I came up with:
can't edit or create stories.
First of all, make sure you have register_globals=on in your php.ini file (if not: change it to on, restart your webserver and try again).
The next thing to check is that you have file_uploads=on in your php.ini (again: if it isn't, change it to on, restart your webserver and try again).
And if that didn't fix it, then you're experiencing a still unresolved problem in your server configuration (there is some indication that this might even be a bug in PHP itself). The only known workaround at this point is to remove the enctype="multipart/form-data" from the template file for the Admin story editor (layout/YourTheme/admin/story/storeditor.thtml). You will lose the ability to upload images in stories after that change, but you should then be able to create and edit stories.
Well, both lines were enabled and I removed the: enctype="multipart/form-data", still i can't upload stories. I don't get it? Anymore, ideas? I'll almost try anything at this point.

So what happens? Which Geeklog version? Have you tried using the Professional theme? Are you using FCKeditor?
That FAQ article you quoted is pretty much out of date, at least if you're using Geeklog 1.4.0 or later which don't require register_globals to be "on" any more. Thanks for reminding me to look into updating that FAQ article ...

basically, what happens is the screen returns back to the story admin home page. then, the submissions do not show. the professional theme works fine, but any prior version themes definitely have trouble with the new GL version. looks like I am going to revamp the professional theme around what I would like, instead of porting any prior version themes.

For Geeklog 1.4.0 and earlier, the recommended fix would be to replace your theme's entire admin directory with the one from the Professional theme.
In Geeklog 1.4.1, however, there were quite a few other changes in the Professional theme so that this approach probably doesn't work too well. So you'd have to work your way through the list of theme changes or create a new theme based on the Professional theme.
