Hi,
First of all a big Thanks to everyone who made the latest 1.4.1.
Really looking great
I was also very happy with the new ML option and happily implemented this.
Now comes the question, I can´t seem to figure out how to quicly achieve this.
Basicly I would like a simple Home (all languages) option, that would display all articles regardless of the language.
Or in the language selector (english / english-all / other / other-all)
The reason for this is a multilanguage marriage
My girl speaks Swedish.
I prefer English.
We both post mainly in our own language, and before 1.4.1 it sometimes looked a little messy.
Now with the ML options activated it looks pretty good on the standard page, but still I would like to be able to see all the stories with one click.
Any ideas / suggestions on how to achieve this ?
Thanks again to all for the very nice work on 1.4.1
Surely looks like GL is ready for 2007

The idea with the multi-language option was that most of the time you have the same article available in several languages. Therefore, it makes sense to only display the articles for the current user's preferred language and hide all the others (it would look really messy otherwise).
So if you want to have stories in different languages but they are not simply translated versions, I'd say you probably don't want to use the multi-language option at all and settle for different topics instead.
Another option (when using the multi-language support) would be to create a separate index page that simply lists all the stories. That could be a static page or a modified version of index.php with the language checks removed.
bye, Dirk

Hi Dirk,
Thanks for the fast reply and suggestions.
I kind of agree, but if I may make a suggestion for the future because I really like the ML setup
In the story editor have a "translate" option, so that when you create an article, you can easily publish it to all the different language folders.
Example:
Setup:
3 language site EN/SE/NL
3 languange topics news_en / news_se / news_nl
Now when you create a story "happy_2007_en" in the topic "news_en", GL discovers that two sister folders are available and offers the new option translate.
By clicking translate, you are asked if you want to save it as a draft or publish directly (the publish directly is especially handy if you only publish media and not really text that needs translation.
The result is that "happy_2007_en" is already copied as happy_2007_se and happy_2007_nl and available for translation.
Right now it is quite of a lot of overhead to create the different stories and keep them in sync.
Best Regards,
Boris

Sounds like a good idea. Maybe not exactly like you describe it, but there should certainly be a way to make translations easier. Submit a feature request so it's not forgotten.
As I stated elsewhere, I expect the multi-language support to improve over the next couple of releases. Some things will only become obvious when people really start using it.
bye, Dirk
