I am in the process of creating my first plugin. I am the universalplugin as a base and using the documentation from the Plugin Developers Guide. Does this plugin still work with GL 1.4.0?
If so, when I attempt to install my skeleton plugin the install screen just flashes and nothing happens. There are no errors in the error.log or on the page. Any ideas where I may start to look for the cause?
What are some other good resources for people writing their first plugin?

I find the staticpage plugin a better "skeleton" to start from. Other than that, it just takes time to learn the ins and outs of GL. Add extra echos to your install.php so you can see where it might be failing.

The Universal Plugin code is old, but mostly still okay. You should pick up the install script from one of the plugins the ship with Geeklog, though (e.g. the static pages plugin). Those are pretty generic and also work with register_globals = off (while the install script from the universal plugin does not).
