I succeed in modifying the logo and its background in header.thtml, however, the back ground does not always appear such as when I click on Calendar, Links, Polls, or FAQ. It does appear in Contribute, Advanced Search, Site Statistics & Directory. I am using the professional theme.

Depending on what background you're talking about: Keep in mind that the plugins have their own template files - they may overwrite your background there.

And the FAQmanager plugin uses its own template system (unless you're using the version I modified).
