Edit site while in maintenance mode?

This is probably a simple solution ...

How do I edit my site after I've put it into maintenance mode? (Set site status to 'false' in the config)

I've tried to go directly to the ****/admin section but I still get the "check back later message" I put on there.

Thanks! Big Grin

While in maint. mode, you cannot address your website through your browser. It takes all browsing of the site offline.

As I understand it, this mode allows you to make software changes without risking that you/another admin might hit a page that changes the database at a "bad time".

If you want to edit the site, you may need to use .htaccess to password protect the Public_HTML directory during your "downtime" instead of the maint. mode flag in config.php.

This is my understanding.

Yes quite right but there is no need to go to maintenance mode if you want to change the site in the "background". You can just chose another theme like "professional-new" as admin and edit this theme. Nobody will notice this if the users stay on the standard "professional".

Thank you for the info. I'll use one of these routes. :shakehands:
