Switching domain names - redirecting from current domain?

Hi.
I'm thinking of switching domain names (not hosts) and would like to know whether it's possible to redirect specific geeklog pages from the current domain to the new one.
For example, redirecting from http://www.currentdomainname.com/article.php/whatever to http://www.newdomainname.com/article.php/whatever
This would be instead of redirecting visitors who go to any page of the current domain to the main page of the new domain.
The only option I'm aware of is manually creating redirect information and dumping it into the .htaccess file for the current domain (or doing it through cPanel, which I think would actually be more cumbersome). Is there a better way of doing this?
Thanks
Julianna

Actually, a simple (where example.com is the new domain name) in the .htaccess of the old site should do the trick.

Won't that just direct people who try to access http://www.currentdomainname.com/article.php/whatever to http://www.newdomainname.com/ instead of the specific address of http://www.newdomainname.com/article.php/whatever?

Julianna, are you working with cpanel? Did you 'park' the new domain ontop of the old domain? Then it should work that you can reach both domains identically.
Maybe this is not what you want? You don`t want the users to see anything anymore with the old domain? No idea if this is possble.

No. It works, but I forgot a slash at the end of the new URL. So it should really be

I'm working with cPanel, but the current domain is not an addon and the new one won't be either.
What I'd like is to redirect anyone and any bot from the current domain to the new domain, and from a specific page to another. Mostly, I don't want to lose my search engine ranking during the transition. And if visitors are going to a specific story, I would like them to be redirected to that story for the new domain instead of the top-level site and having to search for it manually.
After a bit more searching on redirect options in general, I think I'll need to build a list of redirects after all. This page has some information on universal redirects:
http://www.gnc-web-creations.com/301-redirect.htm The problem with total automation is I'll also be redirecting non-existant pages (I have a surprising number of people looking for pages on my website that don't exist!), and I want to keep them out of the new domain.
If you have suggestions, please keep them coming. I won't be making the switch for a while.
Thanks.
