Upon upgrading one of my client's sites to 1.4.1, I have an major problem. All submitted stories, links, events, and other items are attributed to myself, the admin account, no matter who is logged in and submits them. What's worse, anyone who logs in under their own username and password sees my name and account information when they click on "My Account."
I need a solution to this problem ASAP. I have not had anything like this happen on any other sites I've upgraded to 1.4.1. I'm completely stumped. If I cannot find a solution immediately, I will have to restore my client's site back to 1.4.0 until a solution can be found.
If anyone knows what may possibly be going on, please reply here or call me at 208.790.4739. I'm willing to pay a reasonable amount.
Thank you,
Jason Hackwith

something seems to be wrong with your $_USER variable.
can''t call you, I am in a 12-difference timezone to you.
I can only assume that you have a problem in your install. Your files could be corrupt.
move the current install to the side, install a blang new version 1.4.1, move the non-core plugins over and see what it does.
the following things are hacks to get to the root of the problem in case above does not help. do those only on a copy of the site where normal users would not go. register there as a std. user and test submission results and the user settings page.
try to set a different cookiedomain in config.php to make sure that users coming to the new version get new cookies assigned
try to register as a new user, set it as root and delete the old admin account, and see what happens during submission.
add the text
open the page while beeing logged on as a non-root and then root user to the bottom of your index.php and post the results here

Did you install into a new directory or over top of the old directory?

I think I finally figured out what might have been going on... the site had been running phpBBBridge for its forums but was switching to Blaine at PortalParts.com's forum. I left the old forum directory there at http://www.rivercity-church.org/forums/ and installed Blaine's at http://www.rivercity-church.com/forum/ because I was intending to transfer over the old posts at a later date. To prevent access to the old forum directory, I set the /forums/ directory to 600.
After trying everything I could think of last night and pulling half my hair out, I remembered the old forums and wondered if they were somehow to blame. On a whim, I renamed the old forum directory to something random and set the permissions to 400, and presto, the problem disappeared.
I still don't know exactly what the old phpBBBridge forum installation might have been doing to make Geeklog think that everybody was user 2, but it's fixed.
Thanks everybody for your help.
