Can I Test Geeklog along with Wordpress

i currently have a wordpress blog at forestgrovelive.com. i installed wordpress into the root directoy. I would love to convert to geeklog, but want to try it first while leaving my main wordpress site intact. Ideally, I'd like to setup my new geeklog site in the background while everyone sees my wordpress, then when I'm ready, flip the switch and delete wordpress. Can I do that?

You can install Geeklog in a subdirectory. Simply put everything that is in "public_html" into that subdirectory and adjust the paths in config.php and lib-common.php accordingly.

So I create a new subdir on my server - call it 'test'. then ftp the geeklog install files to that directory and run install? currently I don't have a "public_html" directory...at least I don't think I do - i use godaddy for hosting

Geeklog has a public_html directory. Geeklog has its files divided into two parts: public and private. The public parts are only those parts that need to be visable to the outside world. The private parts should never be visible to the outside world. Read some of the installation FAQs for more details to see how you should proceed. (There's a FAQ link under Support on the left side of this page.)

Ok - just so I understand...

I make a new subdir on my server.
I ftp the untar'd geeklog files over to the server in my root
i setup a new mysql database
do i then copy the public_html files into my test dir and run the install
or run the install first then copy the public_html files into my test folder?

Simply follow the installation instructions (which, btw, have a section about public_html).

bye, Dirk
