Working Backwards From Geeklog

I am going to build a site with limited needs:
A user will subscribe (monthly) and become registered.
Then the registered user will log in to his/her account (via cell phone)
and write a small block of information. (think> A digital notepad).
This information will only be available to this user.
The user may return to modify that information several times a week or several times a day.
Thats it. No community. No forum. Nothing else.
I am no PHP genius, I've worked with it before when I had to and will again. I'm no wiz w/ MySQL either.
I can set up Geeklog and make minor modifications. But Geeklog has the basics in place
(i.e. user account administration; subscription management plugins; etc.)
What I'm wondering is if Geeklog can be trimmed down to fit my needs...
Or am I building a Jumbo Jet just because I need a small bathroom?
I know some of you may be a little insulted that I might bastardize Geeklog as such,
or may be thinking that building all that from scratch isn't that hard,
and you may be right. Let me know.
Thanx to all of you hardworking web developers.
Cheers

It's not uncommon to use Geeklog merely as a framework. Someone even made a presentation about that
Stripping Geeklog down should be easy and even with your specialised application, I guess you would still need some basic website that explains what it's about and lets users sign up. So if you're already familiar with Geeklog, I'd say go for it.
bye, Dirk
