OMG, upgrading to 1.4.1.

Hello all,

oh my God, thats all I can say.

I tried to upgrade from 1.3.10 to 1.4.1. and everything went south!
Well, not exactly everything, but most of the text has become twisted.

Charectars like Č, Ž and Š are displayed wrong.

Please, what should I do?
What the heck is happening?

I just deleted everything and set up the Portal as it was, on 1.3.10. Tnx God I did backup of DB.

Why is upgrade screwing up the text, pls?

thank you.

Which character set are you using? Make sure it's the same after the upgrade.

If you were using UTF-8, you may have to make a few changes in the database since Geeklog 1.4.1 is now handling UTF-8 differently. There are quite a few forum posts about that problem. Here and here are two that I found - there should be more if you run into problems, so try a search.

bye, Dirk

No, I did not use UTF-8.

I changed nothing in config.php, I did the upgrade as always so far.

But I took a look at the links you provided and I guess I will have to alter mySQL DB.

So, I guess everything has to be changed:
1. mySQL collation
2. charecter set used in config.php
3. alter all charecters that new GL version displays differently

Hmm. It is disturbing to know that so much work must be done just for one upgrade.
Hopefully this will not be needed in all future ugrades.

This is not something I want to do this evening...

Will update you guys.
Tnx, Dirk.

regards

bill

If you're not on UTF-8, you shouldn't need to do anything special.

Which language are we talking about?

Slovenian.

In config.php windows-1250 charset is set.

In mySQL the collation is utf8-general.ci, mySQL charset is UTF-8 unicode.
In DB tables, however, latin1-swedish.ci is set, from previous versions, I guess.

Hmm.

I am thinking, if I bring these to harmony, everything will work after upgrade.

Yep, the collation sounds wrong.

An update:

yes, I changed the collation in the tables and the upgrade was ok.

I had to manually change all charecters in the mySQL, though.
It is ok now.

Thank you for your help, Dirk!
Smile

cheers
