I am looking forward to the enhanced calendar plugin currently being worked on, but in the meantime I have a client who wanted something different. What she didn't want was the big bulky calendar tables (I don't really like them either). No problem, says I -- before thinking.

Long story short: I whipped off an event list plugin and named it evList. It is just that, an event list. No calendar page to look at (or to break your funky theme). At this point it has basic functions with progress being made on recurring events, multiple categories, autotags, etc.

Not everything works and much is simply not implemented yet, but it is good enough to get up onto my client's site and have events created and displayed.

Let me reiterate: This is NOT necessarily a replacement for your calendar plugin. It just offers another way of presenting events. That's probably not very clear. It doesn't work with your calendar; it is a separate plugin with its own events table; however, your calendar events can be imported (there's a script included for that) and then displayed in the list without damaging your precious calendar events.

If a few of you are interested in giving it a run, I could use some feedback as I continue to work on it. Shoot me an email and I'll get back to you.

I am modifying the gl_events table a bit so if you are using it, be aware that it will be changing.

You do realize that making a static page listing events anyway you like would be easy to write. Perhaps I'm not understanding what you're plugin does but if you never go to /public_html/calendar/index.php, you never see the calendars. It wouldn't be hard to change the event submission stuff to return to a list page rather then returning to a calendar page.

I think you may be doing more work than you really need but that's your choice I suppose.

I certainly did more work than what I needed to do. But the list wasn't the only thing my client wanted. No restrictions, or at least very few, when it comes to what goes into the editor. That's the main reason I did it. It's a bit more flexible.
...and when you're all done with the calendar enhancements, she'll probably want to go back to the way it was. Neutral

well, I'm certainly not being paid your price for such a simple script. But now that I have been paid and evList is good to go, I wonder what shall I do with it? Guess I'll spend a few minutes next weekend cleaning it up and roll it up into a tight little tarball.

hmmm.. I thought recurring events would be more difficult to deal with. they're all done.
Of course I didn't bother with the more ridiculous configurations like the 8th day of the 2 week every other month of the the first 6 years of the dragon past Christ's birth and not past columbus day in spain, or anything like that, but I think I covered the basics.
