Captions for Photos?

I'm trying to find a way to include some kind of a caption or description for the photos that I use in the articles I publish. Right now I'm putting in captions, but it's simply text after the image and there's nothing in the database that connects the text to the photo.
My site is primarily a news site (http://www.panama-guide.com) and I put in at least one and very often five or six pictures per article.
There are two things I would like to be able to accomplish. First of all, I would like to be able to caption the photos. And, I would like those captions to be "captured" by search engines.
I suspect there's something already built-in that I just don't know how to use. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.
Don

Use the Media Gallery plugin instead of the basic internal upload engine.
To put the photos in the articles? I don't know how to do that. I've got the Photo Gallery plugin installed (or at least I did, anyway.) I don't use it much. How do I use the plugin to put the images inside of the articles?

By using autotags. Just like what you're doing now, only different autotags. You know what, also get the MG FCKEditor plugin. Then you could directly use autotags through FCKEditor. There's an entire Wiki in MG's site on how to upload the files and how to use MG's autotags. If you can't handle it, maybe you should consider buying support. Your truly as well as others would be glad to oblige.

I appreciate the offer, but I've been able to bang my way through most of the issues I've run into with GL, and it usually takes longer but in the end I've learned something.
I've tried to use the FCKeditor on about three or four different trips in the past. Every time I try it, don't like it, and then go back to the basic editor. Thanks to your comment I'm going to give the FCKeditor another chance.
I just went to their site (http://www.fckeditor.net/download) and downloaded the most recent version (2.4.3). When I switched to the advanced editor ("true" in config.php and tried to use it, the part of the editor where you put in the title of the article and the other basic stuff appears over in the right-hand block that I'm using for advertising.
And before you ask, I'm using a straight-up unmodified Professional theme.
Therefore, before I can go any further, I have to get into a wrestling match with FCKeditor and figure out why the top block is showing up over there in the right-hand block.
This is the kind of stuff that drives me crazy with Geeklog. I know what I want to do, but getting there is always a five-day screw-fest. (Pardon my venting...)
So, can anyone tell me why the FCKeditor top block is not where it should me?

Could be you downloaded FCKeditor instead of using the one that comes with geeklog. I don't know this for sure, but in the past upgrades to FCKeditor required other geeklog changes.

I asked the same question about a previous version and no one knew for sure.
But I had a good reason to upgrade - back then Geeklog's FCKEditor was crippled in the upload department. Now it works fine, so why do you need to upgrade it? For speed alone? Are you sure then that the new version is truly quicker? You can try it in FCKEditor's own site.

Not really, I'm just trying to get something that works. For some reason the block between the tabs (on top) and the intro block, (where you enter the title, etc) shows up over in the right hand block where I have advertising. I have to fix that, first.
