I'm trying to use the FCKeditor again, and for some reason it's not displaying correctly on the site when I try to contribute an article. The section where the "Title" of the article goes appears off in the Right Side block for some reason.
I'm using the standard Professional Theme with no significant alterations.
Also, I downloaded and installed the most current version of the FCKeditor from their website.
Does anyone have an idea of why it's not displaying correctly?
Thanks.
Don

It could be that the newest version is not what is bundled with geeklog? Did you try it before you installed a newer version of FCKeditor?

I've tried to use the FCKeditor on at least three or four different passes, and every time I gave it a whirl and then went back to using the basic editor for ease of use reasons. I crank out about ten articles a day, and I don't have time to sit around and wait for java stuff to load.
But, because I'm trying to get keyword indexed captions for the photos in the articles I'm trying it again. And, of course, (because this is Geeklog) nothing is easy.
Mortal sin, went off of the reservation and tried to use the most current version of a piece of software. Now, I'm going to have to either 1. Retreat to the "approved" (older) version that works with Geeklog, or... 2. Figure out how to modify the current version of FCKeditor to make it work with Geeklog. hack, hack, hack... (crap.)
And, I have to get FCKeditor working properly, so that I can use the Media Gallery, so that I can use the Media Gallery plugin for the FCKeditor, so that I can add the (friggin) captions and keywords to the photos, so that they will be picked up by the search engines.
Why is Geeklog so damn SEO unfriendly? I should not have to be inventing this stuff...
Photo of George Bush (keywords: bush george) that Google loves. That's where I want to be. Right now my Google see's my photo of George Bush as something like:
"20070825100058252_2.jpg"
yeesh...

It sounds to me that you are trying to make this much more difficult than you need to.
First, go back to the standard FCK Editor that ships with Geeklog. It works and will allow you to do anything you need for editing.
Second, you do not need to use the FCKEditor to use Media Gallery auto tags. I have written an FCKEditor plugin for Media Gallery that gives you a nice pop-up window showing all the albums and media items to easily create auto tags, but it is not required, it is just convenient. If you want to see how the plugins works with the editor, go to gl Labs Lab Site and post a comment to a story. Click the MG icon in the toolbar.
If you want to use Media Gallery auto tags to place images into your articles, which will allow you to have captions and will also set the alt text to the caption, it is as simple as typing something like this in the article:
[media:200612332323 This is the caption], the number (200612332323) is the media id, you can find it by browsing the images in the album.
There are a few features in Media Gallery to support doing exactly what you want to do. For example, if you don't really want to have the albums that hold your article images viewable (meaning you don't want your users to view the album), you can use the hidden attribute. See Media Gallery Wiki (Hidden Albums).
It can be very simple to implement. If you run into problems, just let me know and I'm sure we can work them out.
Thanks!
Mark

Yea! So, I can get where I need to be without having to use the FCKeditor? Wonderful. I owe you a beer...
Now, let me see if I can get a good and current install of Media Gallery working. I think I got that far yesterday...
Yes. I have a working copy of Media Gallery, I've created and album, and uploaded a photo. Now I have to figure out how to put that photo in an article...

Mark;
You are the man. The big, fat, happy man. Thank you, thank you, and thank you. This is exactly what I wanted to be able to do. Yee-friggin'-ha, baby...
The next time you're in Panama give me a call - I owe you a beer (or, maybe a six-pack.)
Thanks again.
