It seems that my geeklog site is not emailing password to new users during registration and I think it have been a while until i discovered this problem today. I tried with a few of my other email and true enough I did not receive the password. I did not change the config file but recently my host haed a server upgrade. Could this be the problem? Can anyone advise. Thanks.

1000ideen thanks for your help.
I've changed to 'mail' and now it works fine.
However I still don't understand why 'smtp' did work fine for more than a year but now it couldn't.
I've checked all the settings at documentation and I'm sure 100% all settings are as documented.
Anyway it really beats me????? :
Anyone knows why this could happen?

No matter which setting I use I find there is always one or two which dont receive it for various reasons, to combat this I created a staticpage on the frontpage only visible to anonymous users telling them to email me if they dont receive the password, also allows me to provide links to terms of use etc too in an easily visible spot.

If nothing changed on your end then it sounds like an ISP issue or the mail relay changed.

It's really unfortunate that the registration email often ends up in spam filters. It usually helps to use SMTP instead of the standard 'mail' setting, since spam filters usually trust SMTP servers more than email sent from a random webserver (the above case, however, seems to show that this is not always the case).
Another option would be to try and change the text of the welcome email. Maybe that'll help in some cases.
bye, Dirk
