Hi,

I am working on a site right now that allows people to upload Stories to the website, if you are a member. However, I do not want to make it so everyone has administration control over Stories, as that is what is running our site, but would like to make it so people can still upload images with their stories.

Is there an update that has been written that allows us to do this? If not, is there someone who has figured out an alternate way of getting this to work?'

Thanks,
Seth

Geeklog doesn't support story submissions with images by non-story editors.

The best you could do is install mediagallery and have folks upload the images to their private albums and reference the images in the story submissions using autotags.

I see the point of using the Media Gallery, and we have that installed on the site. But then you run into the issue of people who aren't computer literate trying to add a story - one that we would like to post on our site maybe at a later date. I seriously doubt they will go to two different areas on the website to try to upload pictures for their article. It will overwhelm them with too much work to do and then they will end up skipping the whole thing. Yes you will come across those stubborn few who will figure it out on their own, but I am just trying to figure out a way to make it really simple for the user.

We were looking at the submit.php verses the admin/story.php and it seems, logically speaking, that there would be a way to combine these two forms keeping certain elements for the submission part (mostly the uploading of images) while keeping the rest of the options just for the admins.

If no one has any thoughts on how to do this, I guess we will be forced to either figure it out ourselves (through trial and error) Or resorting to the Media Gallery. We were just hoping that there was a way already out that had fixed this, as you can't just make new members automatically able to post stories, there is unlimited possibilities as to what they would post, and we can't monitor what is getting uploaded 100% of the time.

Thanks for the quick reponse. Hope they think about coming out with this soon.

As I said, Geeklog doesn't currently support it and adding the support (you will find) is not trivial. It is a heavy modification that will make your version of Geeklog incompatible with future Geeklog updates. What you want is a common request, maybe the core team will add it to the list of feature for the release after next. (Next release is already feature set so it won't be in the next release.)

Hadn't really considered that angle.

Thanks for the help.
