All users should update to Bad Behavior 2.0.11 immediately to prevent being blocked from your own site.

Within the past two days users have found themselves blocked from their own sites while using recent versions of Bad Behavior. A third party blacklist which Bad Behavior queries recently began sending false positives for any IP address queried, causing everyone using Bad Behavior to be blocked. This issue is fixed in Bad Behavior 2.0.11.

You can download Bad Behavior2 v2.0.11 from gl Labs here. Upgrading is as simple as replacing the files from the archive on your Geeklog site.

Thanks for the quick update, Mark (and, of course, to Michael Hampton).

I have updated Bad Behavior here on geeklog.net now. Apologies to anyone who has been blocked.

bye, Dirk

I second that. Thank you for the fast work.

Upgraded from 1.2.4-1. Am I correct in understanding that the Spam-X plugin, aka the Spam-X module, is now considered obsolete?

Oh no! Keep in mind, Bad Behavior2 is just another layer of protection, it does not replace or obsolete any of the other tools you use to combat spam.

Spam-X still plays a very valuable role, keep it there!

Thanks!

The Spam-X module for Bad Behavior (that was included with Bad Behavior 1.x) is obsolete. Spam-X itself isn't.

Thanks for the upgrade. One of my users from Russia emailed me today about being blocked. It was nice to see an immediate fix.

I am among the locked out people using v2.0.10. I read on the Bad Behavior site and here about the upgrade.

First, I cant seem to find the Geeklog version of 2.0.11 on this site. I saw Dirk's post in this thread, but all I can find is the old one that is broken. I dl'ed the newer one directly from Bad Behavior, but I think it is not ready for Geeklog in that form? Can someone point me at Bad Behavior 2.0.11, GL version, so I can get back into my site?

Second, I never made it into the administrative interface to do an install of this plugin, yet it clearly was enabled to some degree, since I was blocked out of my site. Is there any proper procedure for removing and/or updating to the newer version? I am no programmer, and any advice is appreciate.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure how you can miss it - it's the first file in the downloads section currently and also listed in the What's New section on the left. And Mark linked to the copy on his site in the very first post in this thread.

Upgrading is as simple as a standard plugin install. As Mark wrote above: Simply replace all the files. Once you've done that, you can log in and go to the Plugins section of your site to hit "upgrade" - but that will really only update the version number.

bye, Dirk

Thank you for the quick work on this plugin. I've been using it on my sites and it's been very helpful. I am having a problem with one root user who is still being blocked from the site. I've tried everything to get him back in the site. I've added his IP to the whitelist, I've uninstalled the plugin, etc. and he is still getting blocked out of the site. Do you have any ideas what may be causing the repeated blockage?

thanks for your help.

Jared

If it's really Bad Behavior blocking him, then he should see a link "fix it yourself" (or words to that effect) that should take him to Michael's site which lists common causes and solutions.
