The Digg Effect

How well does Geeklog hold up against the Digg effect? Also, are there any plug-ins available that may help with this, such as a caching plug-in of some sort?

Well, Geeklog can hold up to it. But it might depend of the theme and the plugins you are using, since they might generate extra server load. Some Geeklog sites were Slashdotted with good results.

Joe Mucchiello has created a great Caching Template Library which speeds up the rendering of a GL site significantly. I would recommend giving it a try.
Somewhat related, there is a discussion re: database benchmarking and performance in this thread over at gl Labs.
Hope this helps!
