Can I Configure Geek log without a domain name?

I am moving my website to a new host and want to have as little downtime as possible.
I have not redirected my nameservers to my newsite, so my new site is only accessible via http://server.mywebhost.com/~mysite
I have had problems with other CMS packages because the script is automatically looking for a domain name of http://www.mysite.com which doesn't exist on this server yet. Is there a way to install and configure Geeklog before updating my nameservers? I would like to avoid downtime on my site if at all possible.

Just set that for your $_CONF['site_url'] then.
You may have a few hard-coded links here and there that won't work (e.g. in stories), but Geeklog itself uses $_CONF['site_url'] as the base URL everywhere.

Yes you can configure Geeklog before updating nameservers. That`s what I always do and partly for test installations over quite some time.
The only problems I had were with cpanel. I did not manage using their strange "~userXYZ" to work with geeklog and mysql. It would work with HTML but not with Geeklog. So it may depend on the administrative interface on the server.
