What about making a second pack of GL 1.5 special edition? There was someone who had offered GL with a complete download of php, apache etc. called Aeonserve or so. I thought this was a bit big but what about GL with forum, gallery, cache, captcha, badbehavior, some special hacks and 2 or 3 themes included and for me some extra blocks like language and theme choser?

This would be a little bit like the Debian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debian distributions 'stable', 'special edition' and 'CVS'. It might become the favourite download :wink: The more I think about this the more I like it. And one could also rename geeklog 1.5 into something else claiming it to be the code name of that version. What a fun!

gllabs.org plans to make such a release. It would also default to the Chameleon theme. Won't happen until 1.5 is released though.

Is there any discussion going on about that? I suggested this already years ago but usually it was said that the coordination of plugin writers is a problem. I can understand that but it would be nice anyway and help newbees a great deal.

Joe is right, we are planning on doing something like that. ....once 1.5 materializes. Since much of the discussion to this point has happened offline, I've started a forum thread dedicated to the concept over at gl Labs.

You are right that in the past it has been difficult to coordinate with all the different plugin authors. However, gl Labs has made significant effort in trying to provide a home for plugin projects. Currently the plan is to include Joe's Caching Template Library, Forum, Media Gallery, Chameleon, CATPCHA, DokuWiki, and anything else of general value.

The forum link does not work. I`d recommend to add badbehavior and a few blocks like shoutbox, userlist, language and theme switcher.

My bad.

By default, that forum was restricted to the Dev Group only. I've since switched it to All Users access which matches the other forums in the Dev Category.

Also, 1000ideen, I've added you to the Dev Group at gl Labs. Feel free to post you ideas and suggestions.
